Kala Vandanam cultivates holistic personal, artistic and professional excellence through the arts.
Founded in 2002, Kala Vandanam is rooted in the beauty of Bharatanatyam, the most widely performed classical dance tradition of India, and allied arts. Through the vehicles of education, outreach, performance and presentation, Kala Vandanam retains its roots while contributing to its evolution as a “living” performance art and wider appreciation in mainstream communities.
Kala Vandanam’s primary education initiative is long-term student training. The foundational values are 1/ learning and practicing the art with humility and joy, 2/ striving for excellence, and 3/ constructive introspection for both personal and artistic growth.
Outreach activities include demonstrations, presentations and performances in school and community settings, bringing Indian performance art, culture and language to uninitiated audiences. Performance initiatives include professionally produced productions, community and festival based events, and student recitals. Through its presenting wing, Kala Vandanam hosts performances and workshops by internationally acclaimed artists for the wider community to enjoy.
